Housing Festival and Builder Better join forces to support an uptick in the delivery of social and affordable homes
Housing Festival and Building Better have today announced that they are joining forces to form Building Better: Community of Practice (BB:CoP). This is an exciting opportunity to increase momentum in their shared mission to drive systemic change in the social and affordable housing sector through innovation and collaboration.
Building Better will become a Community of Practice, run by Housing Festival. The BB:CoP is a learning partnership open to professionals across the social and affordable housing delivery ecosystem including Registered Providers, local authorities, central government agencies, MMC suppliers and others who want to take an active role in supporting an uptick in the delivery of social and affordable homes.
In England, there are currently 1.33 million households on housing waiting lists, and 127,890 households live in temporary accommodation, including over 165,000 children. To meet these challenges requires both innovation and collaboration. The BB:CoP will work with professionals across the housing delivery ecosystem to foster knowledge sharing, problem-solving and innovation through collaborative learning and the development of shared resources.
An Advisory Board has been formed from the current Building Better board to build, steer and drive the BB:CoP, and Housing Festival will manage the day-to-day operations. The Building Better: Community of Practice (BB:CoP) will harness the momentum of both organisations, and create a space for even greater interaction and joint working for the good of the sector.
Housing Festival was set up in 2018 as a ‘think and do tank’ working to find innovative and scalable solutions to the UK housing crisis, implemented and refined in the real-world. They are champions of MMC and as such have benefited from a collaborative and supportive working relationship with Building Better over the years.
Building Better was also set up in 2018 and has made great strides in encouraging the use of MMC through ongoing collaboration, aggregation and resources. It was born out of the National Housing Federation’s Greenhouse innovation and in this new evolution BB:CoP will continue to benefit from a supportive and collaborative working relationship with the National Housing Federation.
